The roaring ‘20s, as they’ve become known, were a pivotal time for the country and for the plumbing industry. Flush with optimism deserved after prevailing in the War to End All Wars, the country was energetic, youthful and prosperous. It was a good time to start a magazine.
Like many publications the Western Plumber came out of the gate with a most excellent subscription deal to boost circulation: Six months’ subscription for $1 – 18 months of the new magazine for about a nickel an issue. At the helm for the first two issues was managing editor H.K. Fogarty. All that changed with the September issue. The publisher – the Stamm Company of San Francisco – was first named in the pages of the magazine, as was its first editor, J.W. Partridge. And just two months after its debut, the subscription rate doubled to $2 per year.
