If they’re not churning out the hot water for commercial applications like a factory, or a residential setting like and apartment building, you can find them in utility rooms providing the driving force behind radiant hydronic setups all across the country. As always, your pals here at RJ have been on the lookout for the latest and greatest so you can develop an idea of what’s out there for your customers. Here, without any further ado and in no particular order, is our collection of boilers and ancillary products.
LAARS Mascot LX
Laars' Mascot LX wall hung, combination boiler and water heater is the 'All-in-One' Answer to your home heating and hot water needs, the company says. The Mascot LX Combination Boiler is EnergyStar certified, heats any size home and provides an abundant supply of domestic hot water. Mascot LX Combination Boilers Size range 125 MBH, 150 MBH, and 175 MBH - Indoor.
Firetube heat exchanger
U.S. Boiler’s 95% AFUE K2 Firetube boiler features a stainless-steel vertical firetube heat exchanger and is available in six sizes from 85-270 mbh. A combi version is also available (155 MBH). All models can be wall-hung and feature 5:1 modulation. Additional contractor-friendly features include a 3-in-1 vent connection, top or bottom supply/return/gas connections, a split voltage junction box with fused connection boards, and a full-height side access panel. The unit comes with a free three-year parts and limited labor warranty, with registration within 90 days of installation.
Navien’s NCB-E is its next generation combi-boiler. The series is unique in that, as one unit, it is capable of providing a whole-house heating system while also providing the domestic hot water output of a stand-alone tankless water heater. It will be a rolling replacement, now with a Grundfos pump, an integral air vent, a PRV top connection, a quieter fan and a new front cover bevel design.
Noritz’ new two-in-one CB series combi-boilers both domestic hot water and hydronic space heating for whole-house applications, even in colder climates, using condensing technology to maximize energy efficiency while reducing installation labor and cost. The CB Combi performs at a 95% AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency); that is, 95% of the Btuh input is converted into useable heat, making it an extremely energy-efficient appliance. This fuel-saving performance meets “Energy Star Most Efficient” standards, which represent the EPA’s highest efficiency rating and allow homeowners to qualify for various state energy rebates.
High-efficiency commercial boiler
Lochinvar’s Power-Fin high-efficiency commercial boiler features a double row of swept fins. The Smart Touch Control feature offers an 8” touchscreen with easy-to-understand infographics for easy set-up, while the CON•X•US platform allows users to monitor and manage the boiler from any internet-capable device. It sends alerts via text or email notifying the user of changes in the system status and allows for the modification of boiler settings from almost anywhere when connected to Wi-Fi or cat 5 Ethernet. With thermal efficiency of 87%, it features a 5:1 turndown ratio.
Greenstar Combi 100P
Bosch Thermotechnology Corp. recently announced the next model in its Greenstar Pro Combi lineup, the Greenstar Combi 100P. This unit offers the same superior performance found in Bosch Thermotechnology’s Greenstar Combi boiler, but is a simplified model, providing professionals with only the essential parts. The Greenstar Combi 100P has a maximum input rate of 100,000 BTU/h and a minimum input rate of 24,600 BTU/h. In addition, users can install the unit using a variety of venting materials and terminations. The Greenstar Combi 100P also includes an innovative liquid propane conversion kit that does not require the use of a flue gas analyzer. In order to switch to LPG, the installer simply installs a new code plug, a fixed gas throttle orifice and an LPG label.
