Back to school?
Welcome to September. There’s a little snap in the air and the kids are getting ready to head back to school, much to their parents’ relief.
In just a few short days as this is written we’re going to be on-scene at the second Service World Expo event at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Hotel Sept. 7-8. The first networking and educational event was so popular, exhibitors were signing up for this year’s version before it even ended last year. This year’s edition is set to feature a wide range of speakers, including J.R. Martinez, a U.S. Army vet, and Ryan Estis, business performance expert and one of the top 100 keynote speakers in the U.S., according to our friends at Meetings & Conventions magazine.
Keeping with the educational theme for a minute, there’s an awful lot coming up at local PHCCs to take advantage of. A quick look at our Calendar of Events shows three upcoming opportunities — two in Nevada and one in Texas — to sharpen your ax for the upcoming year.
On another topic, this issue will introduce you to our Western Contractor of the Year for 2017-2018. Milton Frank Plumbing Co. in Spring, Texas gets the nod this year. And it’s probably the only time a business run out of the owner’s mother’s house will ever take the honor home.
Also on tap this month is a nod to our readers who tell us they dig new products. This issue features our giant water heater buyer’s guide starting on pg. 32, along with our regular three pages of new stuff hitting the marketplace.
Finally, in keeping with RJ’s “show ‘em, don’t just tell ‘em” philosophy, this month we’re featuring two big installations for your enjoyment: Dave Balboa from Barker & Sons Plumbing handles a customer situation with a toilet from a mail-order house and we provide a quick look at how to install and program the basics into a radiant thermostat with touch screen technology.
We hope you’re enjoying the “new look” RJ and we’re able to provide you with something of an education each month. Thanks for reading …
