In 1979, Bill and Patty Jones set up a plumbing business in Houston. Naming the fledgling business was no problem because the couple had a pair of sons, Ray and Stephen. A simple combination of those names and Raven Mechanical was born. Ray, who was unavailable for an interview at deadline, and Stephen got their first taste of the business as pre-teens, Stephen says, pulling orders, restocking, cleaning the warehouse and all the usual things.
The brothers are 90% owners of the two-location company – they became principals in 2007. Headquartered in Houston, There’s also a location in Austin, Stephen says, which splits its business 75%/25% commercial/residential. The Houston location does new construction work and plays host to a commercial service department. Stephen says the breakdown is about 83% new construction with the rest made up of service. The company provides employment for about 200 people.
