Arizona Pipe Trades Train Native American Welders
March 7, 2009
A program developed by the Washington, D.C.-based United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters and Sprinklerfitters has helped 12 members of the Navajo Nation complete a 16-week Hybrid Welding Program.
The program, overseen by UA Local 469, was implemented by the U.S. Department of the Interior/Indian Affairs and Arizona Pipetrades Training, which is supported by P.I.P.E., the Piping Industry Progress and Education Trust Fund. The Hybrid Welding Program was made available at no cost to the participants and was designed to provide graduates with skills that will be needed to help rebuild America’s infrastructure.
U.A. Local 469’s membership includes nearly 425 Native Americans. P.I.P.E. is an organization committed to upholding the highest standards of performance in the plumbing and pipefitting industry.
