Enterprise Wins Environmental Award Enterprise Fleet Management was recognized recently for its comprehensive environmental initiatives, winning the 2009 American Business Award for Environmental Responsibility Program of the Year. A full-service fleet management company for businesses with medium-size fleets, Enterprise received the award for implementing an aggressive set of programs and initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint of customer’s vehicles. In addition, a pledge of $1 million was made through the Enterprise charitable foundation to match a portion of each fleet customer’s greenhouse gas emissions and a
dedicated Web site was developed to educate businesses fleet owners and operators on ways to reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution.
A.O. Smith Offers Software Info.
A.O. Smith Water Products Company is the first in the water heater industry to offer specifying engineers and architects complete access to 3D building information modeling of its commercial waterRevit software. By visiting
the Web site, specifying engineers can download the 3D Revit models to be inserted into their building model or drawings. Future plans include making the A. O. Smith files available from the Autodesk “Seek Site” where product models can be directly accessed from within the Revit program.
PRT up for Technical Award
Pipe Restoration Technologies LLC, parent company of ACE DuraFlo Systems and the developers of the ePIPE product line said it was nominated for the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the highest U.S. honor for technological achievement bestowed by the president. The medal is awarded in recognition of outstanding contributions to the nation’s economic, environmental and social well being through the development and commercialization of technological products, processes and concepts; technological innovation and development of the nation’s technological manpower.
Al Levi Offers ‘Recession Solution’
Reeves Journal columnist Al Levi is offering a free online video seminar along with another paid program that offers contractors 12 months of solutions to the current economic downturn. Caroma Buys Them Back
Caroma said it is partnering with the City of Alamo Heights and Morrison Supply Company in Texas on a toilet replacement program for Alamo Heights water customers. Due to drought conditions, Alamo Heights is experiencing Stage 1 water restrictions. As part of efforts to conserve water, the City of Alamo Heights has created the toilet voucher replacement program to help conserve water in the house. The voucher rebate program enables homeowners to purchase a Caroma toilet at a reduced cost and qualify for a $50 water bill credit with original proof of purchase. Two vouchers and two credits are available per occupied unit. In other action, the company said it is donating trees to the Woodside Ranch Fire planting in Oregon, part of the Wildfire ReLeaf program. The Woodside Ranch Fire burned through the Deschutes National Forest in 2007. Caroma is supporting a portion of the replanting of 56,000 ponderosa pine trees to restore the burned area and provide wildlife habitat in an important deer winter range.
T&S Brass Recertified to ISO 9001:2008
T&S Brass has been recertified by Underwriters Laboratories to ISO 9001:2008 quality management systems requirements. T&S Brass was among the first commercial plumbing manufactures to be ISO 9001 certified in 1994. After recent reexamination and review by UL, T&S received the ISO 9001:2008 certification and completed the audit without any findings of non-conformity. The International Organization for Standardization is the world’s largest developer and publisher of International Standards. ISO 9001:2008 specifies requirements for an organization’s quality management system.
‘Buy American’
Chicago Faucets said recently more than 95 percent of its products comply with the Buy American Act, which requires U.S. government entities to prefer, and when possible, purchase products made in the United States. To comply with BAA, the cost of a product’s domestic components must equal more than half of the cost of the complete product. Johnstone Supply Adds New Facility
Portland-based Johnstone Supply has announced a move to a new, larger parts and equipment Distribution Center serving Johnstone stores in the Northeast. The new 156,000 square-foot facility will be based in Lehigh County, Pa., close to the cooperative’s current distribution facility in Allentown. It’s set to begin receiving inventory in September and to start shipping in October.
State Donates $5,000
State Water Heaters, in conjunction with Baker Curb Racing, donated $5,000 to the American Red Cross to assist in tornado relief efforts as part of the NASCAR Nationwide Series Relief Fund Team Challenge. The Challenge took place at Nashville Superspeedway during the Federated Auto Parts 300 and was a competition between crews to see who could make the largest donation to the Nashville Chapter of the American Red Cross. In January, State Water Heaters and Baker Curb Racing announced a sponsorship arrangement for the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series. On Jun. 6, State Water Heaters made its debut as a primary sponsor on Jason Keller’s No. 27 Ford Fusion.
Holmquist Retires
Dick Holmquist Jun. 30 retired as national sales and marketing manager for Bryan Steam LLC. Holmquist served in sales capacities within the industrial heating industry for 43 years. He began at Iron Fireman in Harrisburg, VA in 1966 selling commercial burners and boilers and then became involved with international sales after Dunham-Bush purchased Iron Fireman. Holmquist also held positions at Peabody-Gordon-Piatt as a district sales manager and then as OEM sales manager for OEM boiler manufacturers nationwide. He eventually came to work for one such OEM, Bryan Steam, in 1994. Ron Guth will replace Holmquist as national sales and marketing manager.
CLARIFICATION
An article in the July issue of RJ presented incorrect information in a description of Caroma’s Brisbane toilet. [“Better Living Through Products,” pg 26.] The article states Brisbane’s performance is 1.28 gallons per flush when in fact, the Brisbane’s performance is actually 0.96 GPF. RJ regrets any inconvenience this misunderstanding may have caused.
