International Code Council Elects Directors, Officers

 The International Code Council elected its new Board of Directors and officers at the organization''s recent annual conference in Orlando.

First up is Wally Bailey, director of development and construction for the city of Fort Smith, Ark., who was named president of the ICC board.

The new vice president is Steven Shapiro, director of codes compliance for Hampton, Va. A certified building official, Shapiro was first elected to the International Code Council Board in 2000 and most recently served as secretary/treasurer.

Adolf Zubia, Fire Chief for Las Cruces, N.M., was elected secretary/treasurer. A 20-year veteran of the fire service, Zubia was first elected to the Board in 2003.

Board members Greg Johnson, Ron Piester and Tim Ryan were re-elected to serve three-year terms as directors. Johnson is a building inspector for the city of St. Paul, Minn. Piester, AIA, is director of the division of code enforcement and administration for the New York State Department of State. Ryan, a certified building official, is codes administrator for Overland Park, Kan.

Barbara Koffron was elected to a one-year term on the Board of Directors. Koffron, Fire Marshal for the city of Phoenix, was appointed to the Board in March to fill a vacant seat.

International Code Council members also elected two new representatives to the Board: Gregori Anderson and Doug Murdock.

Anderson, a certified building official and director of the department of building safety and regulatory services for Chatham County, Ga., will serve a three- year term. Serving a one-year term, Murdock is also a certified building official and director of building inspections for the city of Gainesville, Fla.

The ICC board of directors also includes: Ed Berkel, C.F.I., Fire Marshal for the Mehlville, Mo., Fire Protection District; Jimmy Brothers, building director for Decatur, Ala.; Terry Cobb, C.B.O., director of the department of codes administration for Nashville/Davidson County; John Darnall, C.B.O., assistant director of development services in Tumwater, Wash.; William Dupler, building official for Chesterfield County, Va.; Gerry George, C.B.O., chief building official in Boulder County, Colo.; John LaTorra, building and inspection manager for Redwood City, Calif.; and Ron Lynn, building official for Clark County, Nev. Henry Green, executive director of the bureau of construction codes and fire safety for the state of Michigan, becomes the immediate past president.
