Caroma Earns Green Kudos
Caroma said it had earned a special mention from New York House magazine's Innovative Green Design Awards competition for multi-purpose Profile Smart fixture, which combines a hand-washing basin and faucet with a dual flush toilet. After flushing the toilet, the Profile Smart directs fresh water through the integrated faucet for washing hands and then drains into the toilet tank where it remains until the water is used for the next flush. Featuring two buttons for flushing, the half flush of the Profile Smart toilet uses 0.8 gallons of water per flush for liquid while the full flush uses 1.28 gpf for solids.

ICC, ARCSA Enter Agreement
The International Code Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association, building on its emphasis on green construction in the Public Version 1.0 of the International Green Construction Code. The MOU calls for both organizations to use their knowledge and expertise to advance and promote the safe and effective design and implementation of rainwater catchment systems. Continued on page 19

AWWA to Host Financial Management Seminar
Sept. 29 - Oct. 1 are the dates announced by the American Water Works Association for its Financial Management: Cost of Service Rate-Making Seminar in Denver. This three-day course is will discuss rate-setting, balancing the escalating costs of operational and infrastructure improvements, expanding regulatory and environmental forces from government and public interest groups, and public demand for clean and affordable water. WaterSense Program is Saving Water
Since the program's inception in 2006, the Environmental Protection Agency's WaterSense program has helped consumers save a cumulative 46 billion gallons of water and $343 million in water and sewer bills, the group said. The 2009 Accomplishments Report, available right here, lays out all the details, including: Saving more than 36 billion gallons of water and $267 million in consumer water and sewer bills; Reductions of 4.9 billion kwh of electricity and 1.75 million metric tons of carbon dioxide through the use of WaterSense labeled products; and growth to more than 1,500 partners and 2,000 labeled plumbing fixture models.
